Sugar Cane



Sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) is a plant from the sweet grass family (Poaceae) and is assigned to the Panicoideae subfamily with around 3270 other species. Its origin is in East Asia, but today it is grown in all climatically suitable regions. The plant is the most important raw material supplier for the production of table sugar (sucrose) and increasingly also for the production of bioethanol.
